If you are starting to get hairs on your chin, then it worth doing something about it sooner rather than later, so that the problem does not get worse.  These hairs are usually caused by higher levels of androgens (male hormones) and these can be triggered by stress, a hormone imbalance like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or being overweight.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Stress can cause excess hair because the adrenal glands produce androgens.  The main cause of excess hair though is PCOS and often times there can be other accompanying symptoms such as acne, irregular or no periods and weight gain.

Being overweight can be a factor because it can cause insulin resistance whereby insulin is not as effective as it should be in lowering blood sugar.  The higher the levels of insulin the more testosterone can be produced by your ovaries leading to excess hair.

But you may just have a family tendency to have excess hair and then the aim is just to keep it under control by removing it.  Plucking is fine and it takes the hair out by the root and the effect lasts up to 6 weeks.   For some women it can make the hair grow darker and thicker, while others find the re-growth is lighter and finer.
